Well - today I went to my favourite organic store in order to buy organic blueberries - now they are exhorbitantly expensive but they are so damn good they are almost worth - however, throughout the berry season they have been getting steadily more expensive - TODAY THEY WERE $8 for what equates to maybe three mouthfuls

I was literally annoyed by this - this is just obscene - I did not buy them even though I desperately wanted them and it is not about the extra $2 they had increased in price -

It is just the principle of the thing - I am not going to pay $8 for a handful of blueberries

So I put it to you - do you think Organic is used as a bit of license to charge exhorbitantly for fruit and vegetables ??

So they set up camp and as they are prone to do they decide to throw stuff into their outrageously large fire - So Paul jr. throws a full bottle of charcoal light fluid into the fire - the ligher fluid comes in a plastic bottle - and very uncharacteristically they cut it so you could not see the bottle go up in toxic flames

I thought two things:

1) They don't want children to imitate this
2) How can they cause so much toxic smoke in the name of entertainment

We had a friend who ran his entire house on Solar Energy, it was fantastic, reliable, and he always had a backup generator, which he used 5 times in a 6 year lifespan of his house (he then moved on)

Now that the state of the world is finally becoming a priority of mainstream society, why don't the Government do something to promote not only alternate energies, but a way to cut down our emissions

SOLAR POWER

All new houses get an option of standard power or can opt to have solar power installed at their homes. For taking the solar power option, you get a reimbursement to help with the costs

For the number of new houses that go up every year, I'm quite sure a number of them would take that option. one big thing going on in the world lately is people asking about 'alternate energy' whether it be solar power, wind power, or the oh so controversial nuclear power (in aus).

One type i know about and i know many people that have never heard of it is Geo-thermal power. Now forgive me if things have changed greatly in the past 6 months and this technology is now useless.

For those who don't who what it is, basically we need heat to heat water to make steam to spin turbines to make electricity. What Geo-thermal basically does is you dig a pipe maybe a couple of km's deep into the ground, and pump water down. In this case the heat from the earth turns water into steam which comes back up and spins turbines.

Now i don't consider myself a scientist, but i see this to be the most flawless system there is. It's 100% renewable, the earth is always hot, and is perfectly clean.

Are there any downsides to this that i don't know about? I haven't been following the elections very closely, but I heard this morning on CNN that they are probably the four strongest supporters of dealing with global warming. Hopefully the trend continues throughout the election.

Sea Shepherd, which I am a firm supporter of, actually have the balls to standup to the whaling fleet, and give a damn about what's happening with the poor creatures, and Green Peace won't work with Sea Shepherd. I think that's totally bullocks, the whaling fleet should be sunk, and those inflatable rafts green peace deploys should be sunk, and let the real protest take action.

Just thought I'd throw this one down on the table for discussion since its kinda relevant to all the various different opinions out there on the topics we discuss.

Can it be used as a legit source of info? Can you trust it?
That's my question.

I was talking about this the other night with someone and we were thinking along the lines of if you have both sides of the argument putting info into the same place, surely facts do eventually match up and from that you have an unbiased article. While phrasing and all that can go a long way to tampering with it, on a pure facts and figures level, does this method bring concrete facts?

While we have insane amounts of evidence in favor of Global Warming there's still millions out there who don't believe the evidence is concrete and that Global Warming is a big hooey.

One of the common arguments I've heard is the Medieval Warming period being proof that temp fluctuates throughout history.

I think it's unfortuante that in this day and age and in a nation that is supposed to be wealthy (and one of the most visited in the world), it's a disgrace that a government can have such little care on the treatment of something as important as this, and just let it pile up. If this were to happen in Australia, the government would find a third-party or independant company (if they already don't) to collect the trash and take it somewhere, instead of just letting it pile up. Clearly, one of the world's most powerful nations has more interest in standing firm and maintaining its "powerful" reputation, instead of dealing with something that is normally restricted to a third-world country. I don't even want to know what the smell and air is like around that area. Should they be lifted when dam levels go up? I think no, if the current restrictions are livable (which they are for me) then they should just remain.

And i also wanted your opinion on this. I live in Hervey Bay which is on level 5 and a town 30mins away does not have any because its dam is at capacity. The State Government says recent surveys show waterfowl populations will not go into serious decline as a result of this year's duck shoot.

The Minister for Primary Industries, David Llewellyn, has confirmed the season will go ahead despite calls for it to be cancelled because of the drought.

Mr Llewellyn says the Government may consider closing the season early if this year's survey records a decline.
