Description
Australia has excellent wind resources. A strong wind stream
from the Indian Ocean provides prospective sites in western
and northern Tasmania, south-western Western Australia (WA),
south-western and eastern Victoria, and central New South
Wales. Nationally, PB already has a total of 818 megawatts of
grid-connected wind power (excluding off-grid wind-diesel
systems), but vast potential is still untapped. In comparison,
Germany has much lower wind resources than Australia but has
the world’s highest installed wind power — 20,622 megawatts.
PB has been involved with most of Australia’s wind
farm projects, including Emu Downs in WA, Windy Hill in
Queensland, Challicum Hill in Victoria and Cathedral Rocks
in SA. Parsons Brinckerhoff has also worked with Auswind, the Australian Wind Energy Industry Association, to develop Certified Wind Farms Australia, an auditable, social and environmental sustainability
